Physicist Henry Lewis Stadler died of pneumonia on July 22, 2008 in
Berkeley, CA. He and his family lived in Ann Arbor from 1959 until
1980; during that time he worked on engine design for fuel economy at
Ford Motor Co. and served one term on the City Council. He later
worked as Director of Transportation Systems in the federal Energy
Dept. and at the Jet Propulsion Laboratories. He was a wonderful guy.
His life was dedicated to family, public service, and the world of
ideas. Following retirement, Hen worked ceaselessly to develop clean
fuel. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Carol, children Jane,
John and Sarah, 6 grandchildren, siblings John, Tuck and Joan Martin
of Ann Arbor.
